The exhibitions Urgent Conversations: Athens–Antwerp and Urgent Conversations: Antwerp – Athens are a collaboration between EMST and M HKA, a theoretical and visual dialogue, based on works from the collections of both museums, which includes more than 70 works structured in 22 topics.

The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens (EMST) was founded in 1997 by Law 2557(article 2) and began its operation in 2000. It is a legal entity of private law funded and surveyed by the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
The Museum lies in the former Fix brewery on Syngrou Ave., after the completion of the reconstruction of its building in February 2014. In May 2015 the Museum’s administrative offices moved in the first floor of its new building.
From September 30th, 2008, EMST was hosted in the building of the Athens Conservatory, while from 2003 until 2008 it presented exhibitions and events at the Athens Concert Hall, the Athens School of Fine Arts and in the public space.
Among the fundamental aims of the Museum are the collection of Greek and foreign artworks, the prominence and presentation of innovative and experimental artworks from the contemporary artistic production, the production of new audiovisual works of new media, the promotion of esthetic culture and artistic education of the public and the development of scientific research on contemporary art history and theory issues and of contemporary artistic creation.
The Museum's collection is formed around very important works by Greek and foreign artists, such as Stephen Antonakos, Constantin (Dikos) Byzantios, Vlassis Caniaris, Chryssa, Mona Hatoun, Gary Hill, Emily Jacir, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Nikos Kessanlis, Jannis Kounellis, Shirin Neshat, Lucas Samaras, Costas Tsoclis, Bill Viola, a.o, which is constantly enriched.
The new building, which occupies 18.142 sqm. on a 3.123 sqm surface, will dispose more the two of its floors for the presentation of its permanent collection, as well as for temporary exhibitions, conferences, events, educational programs for children and adults, a library, a project room, a media lounge etc. It will also be equipped with a café and a restaurant.
The EMST aspires to become a pole for Greek and foreign visitors, a meeting point for socialization, entertainment, a city landmark of contemporary art.
